Timeline for Beginning Band
6th Grade Beginning Band Timeline
Ms. Holbrook has been offering individual test drive appointments for students and parents since April. After July 15, students will need to wait and attend one of the evening or Saturday Band Test Drives. These are being held on August 2 and 3, 4:30-6:30 pm in the band room. Students are asked to either ride the bus home and return with their parent/guardian or meet them in the car line and then come to the band room to attend the test drive together. There is also a Saturday test drive on August 5, 9 am - 2 pm in the band room. No individual appointments are necessary for these test drives.
What To Expect at the Beginning of the Schol Year
The first few days of school, all 6th grade students will go through a rotation that gives them an introduction to their choices in band, orchestra and chorus and also gives them an idea of what the other connections classes are all about. The normal middle school schedule includes two periods per day in the connections department, which includes band, orchestra, chorus, P.E., FACS, art, and technology. It is during these two daily periods that this introductory rotation will take place.
After the Rotation Ends
6th grade students will begin to attend band, chorus, orchestra and their other connections classes. At this point, students will finalize instrument choices and receive directors permits and music store packets. Please wait until receiving these items before purchasing or renting instruments, books, and other supplies. If your student received their directors permit in the spring, feel free to go to music stores and purchase your materials. Maybe even start a few lessons over the summer! Just wait until Ms. Holbrook tells you to bring your instrument to school before you bring it with you!
