This is a busy week in the band room after our missed days last week.
7th & 8th Grade Families, a LGPE letter was distributed to all 7th & 8th grade students today (January 23). It was either on light green, orange or fuschia paper depending on your student's class period. Please see below to download the file if your student did not give you the letter. LGPE performance times are listed in addition to after school rehearsal dates for the concert band in addition to the Preview events for each band. I will send home more detailed information and field trip forms once our transportation is approved at the county level!
On Wednesday, January 24, our Daily Bread Fundraiser begins. Please be on the look out for the sales brochure and the flyer that outlines the prizes students can earn for participating in the fundraiser!
Lastly, Ms. Holbrook will be attending the Georgia Music Educators Association Convention on Thursday and Friday. This is a wonderful professional development opportunity for music teachers in our state. There will be a substitute teacher in the band room on Thursday and Friday. ALL students are expected to have instruments in band on those days. If a student's instrument is in the repair shop, please bring in a note to give to the substitute. In all classes, students indicated that they would like the opportunity on those days to work collaboratively to practice with one another. 7th and 8th grade students will be working collaboratively on their LGPE music. 6th grade students will be working to prepare for the rhythm assessment next week, work on book lines together, and help each other learn the concert Bb scale and arpeggio - we added the final note on Monday. Written assignments will also be prepared and left for students as well and the substitute can make use of these assignments should the need arise.
Today in class, we discussed how important it is to follow the substitute's instructions, remain on task, work to make music with each other, make good choices and to treat the substitute and other class members with respect (the final 2 being important components of the Daniell PBIS). It is my hopes to return to wonderful sub reports and to have the opportunity to award SWIM points because so many students were named as being helpful, respectful, and engaged.
If for some reason, you need to communicate with Ms. Holbrook during GMEA, the best way is through email. You may not receive a reply until Saturday or Sunday, but email will definitely be accessed during the convention.
This week in band, we will begin working on our LGPE selections in earnest in the 7th & 8th grade classes as the programs have been finalized. Due to the missed days last week, I cannot send detailed information about our LGPE performances until our transportation is approved and finalized by the county. I will be sending home some general information on Tuesday, so please ask your students for that hard copy! Concert Band students, please be sure you are aware of your after school rehearsal dates. Everyone, please make note of the Preview Dates and LGPE dates! Please do not make any major orthodontic appointments during the week of the LGPEs adjustments of braces, getting braces or having braces removed can have a major impact on a student's performance on their instrument.
6th graders will continue to learn eighth notes and concert pitch. They will also complete their Concert Bb scale!

Last week hoodies were distributed. Extra hoodies are now on sale with our bookkeeper, Ms. Parr. Students can bring their $30 payment to Ms. Parr in the front office and she'll let them know what sizes and colors are still available. There is also a limited supply of Band hoodies for sale in the Hot Spot. Students can use their SWIM points (part of PBIS at Daniell) to purchase a Band hoodie. Once the supply in the front office and Hot Spot are gone, that's it until the Hoodie Fundraiser next year! If you ordered a magnet, I'll be working to distribute those this week in classes.
